Average Rating: Rating: - Attractive pictures but not for serious learners of Chess. A typical DK book full of great pictures illustrating the game. But it has nothing for children who already know how to play the game and are looking for advanced topics. In my opinion, this book can get a kid started on Chess. Rating: - Great for children and adults This book is useful for anyone who wants to learn how to play chess. Several adults (including myself) have learned something new from the book. It starts with the basics of setting up the board and piece movement. It moves into more complex issues like piece valuation and notation. Too many people buy a chess book, only to give up because it feels more challenging than War & Peace! This one fits the bill. It is thin; it has great pictures, and even some drama. Did you know that the bishop used to be represented by an elephant? Buy the book to learn more. Rating: - Fantastic book! This is a GREAT book for kids (or adult) learning chess. One doesn't need to want to become a master of chess to buy this book. It has simple games that anyone can enjoy (my two kids are 3 and 6). Just the simple pawn game is well worth the money. In the end, it demystifies chess and makes the game fun and accessible to little kids. Worth every penny!
